The orange leaves are falling, temps are dropping … there’s a crisp breeze in the air. The smell of pumpkin & cinnamon spice fills our homes. We’re preparing Thanksgiving feasts and making our lists for holiday shopping. It’s that time again! It’s (in my opinion) the best time of the year! And I don’t know about y’all, but this season instantly gives me all the cozy vibes. Whether I’m nestled in a warm blanket at home, sitting by the fire in fuzzy socks, or exploring the fall foliage in my favorite sherpa, I’m always one happy girl when I’m in my cozies!
Sometimes, you gotta boss up & create your own lane.
When I started on this blogging journey 2 years ago, I never knew what it would turn into or how many wonderful people I would meet along the way. I never knew that taking a leap of faith into my “own lane” would lead me to today. I was SO nervous to take this blog full time almost a year later and even more afraid to become my own boss. But God lit up this “lane” so perfectly and practically stepped on the gas pedal for me to lead me in the right direction …
New York Fashion Week is ultimately one big research project for me. Whether I’m attending a runway show, a presentation, an event, or even just walking the streets of Manhattan, I am constantly taking mental notes during my time in the City on what trends I’m seeing the most of, what streetstyles are most popular, and what style inspo can I bring back home to share with you all.
This year during fashion week, I noticed a lot of tweed, pastel colors, huge statement sleeves, and lots of unique handbags. More specifically, unique belt bags. Or dare I say “the modern day fanny pack”? 😉 That’s right … the 90s are making a comeback, and those once-popular bags around the waist are coming back in style! The it-girls of NYC, designers, and models at fashion week have proven it to be true. This time around though, the design and structure is a bit updated. This season’s most popular hangbag trend is in the form of a real belt that can be worn around the waist, through belt loops, or even over one shoulder with the bag resting on one’s chest. My personal favorite way that I saw people styling it was around the waist, so I decided that I would try it out for myself once I got back home to Tennessee! I love being able to incorporate the top trends from NYFW in my daily life!
This year was my second New York Fashion Week, and it was one for the books! I’m leaving The City with no voice, a full heart and LOADS of style inspo for the coming months & spring / summer 2019. (Side note: I’m actually LOVING the new trends coming in next season … think big shoulders, fun (unique) sleeves, tweed, pastels, ruffles and all things chic.)
Since NYFW is such an incredibly busy, chaotic time, it’s hard to share every little detail or every single link to outfits during my time in the Big Apple, so I wanted to take the opportunity to recap all things Fashion Week 2018 in this post, including all my outfit details (+ links to shop), all the shows & events I attended, memories that were made with friends from all over the country and trends that I saw on the runways for the upcoming seasons. I hope you’ll find this post helpful, entertaining and inspiring! As always, if you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to ask. 🙂
I’ve been getting questions from some of you asking if I planned to cover anything else besides women clothing/shoes during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, so I wanted to share a few of my personal TOP FAVS and all the best items from each category of the NSale! I included men’s fashion, beauty, home and then of course, still included my top women’s favorites as well. I didn’t include anything kid/baby related since I don’t personally have children of my own yet, so I felt like I wouldn’t be the best resource to you all in that area since I still have a lot to learn myself when it comes to babies … one day, we’ll get there 😉
One of my favorite new discoveries lately has been a line of handbags from Hammitt. Designed in Los Angeles and made with the best materials from around the world (hello, European leather! It’s SO soft!), Hammitt bags are some of the most unique bags I’ve ever seen, but they also aren’t too trendy. All of their hardware comes with a lifetime warranty, so you can keep your favorite bag forever!
This year, Hammitt is celebrating their tenth anniversary – so instead of receiving a gift, they are giving a gift! 20% of proceeds from this year’s sale-bration will support Walk With Sally, a nonprofit that pairs children who have lost family members to cancer with mentors who understand that experience. You all KNOW that I’m all for supporting companies who mix style and charity, so I’m excited to team up with them and drive as much support for Walk With Sally as possible.
Happy … Thursday?! To be honest, I’m not even sure what day it is at the moment because I’ve been up working on my top picks for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale since 3am this morning, but it’s been totally worth it because it is sooo GOOD you guys! I honestly feel like Santa Claus on Christmas morning right now because I’m getting to share these amazing finds with you all for the very first time. LOL! If I’m this excited about feeling like jolly ole St. Nick over a sale, then I can’t imagine how I’ll feel when I have kids of my own to spoil at Christmastime someday!
Anyways, back to the sale … 😉
YOU GUYS! The biggest sale of the entire year is about to begin, and I’m so excited! The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale — aka the NSale — is something that you do not want to miss if you are into grabbing really great deals for fall/winter before the seasons arrive. I know that there is a lot of confusion if you’ve never shopped the sale before, but that’s why I am here! I’m here to help you in any way that I can and be a go-to source for all of your questions. I’ve already begun receiving requests from some of you regarding this event, so I’ll be answering all of your questions about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale in this blog post. This post should fully prepare you to shop the sale!
Let’s get started …
I’ve recently received sooo many requests to share my fitness routine, and the time has finally come! I typically change it up every once in awhile, so all of this may change in the future but for now, I’ll share exactly what I’ve been doing to get in shape for summer. Let me preface this post by telling you all that I am by no means a personal trainer, nor do I have any professional fitness experience on my resume. That being said, this routine is just what I have found to be helpful for me and my own body. Everyone’s body is different. REPEAT AFTER ME: Everyone’s body is different! And that’s what makes each of us special in our own way. (It’s really a beautiful thing!) Just keep that in mind throughout your fitness journey because what works for me may not work for you or vice versa … and that’s okay! However, I am happy to share what has been working for me lately and you can feel free to join me in this routine if it sounds like something that would be helpful to you.
First, a little backstory …
Weddings, graduations, bridal showers, rehearsal dinners, proposals, black tie events, engagement pictures, you name it … these special occasions are SO much fun, but they can also bring on a lot of anxiety and stress when it comes to finding the perfect outfit. Trust me, I’ve been there. It’s the week before the event and you’re scrambling around town (or searching the Internet) for the perfect dress. Of course, any other time of the year (when you don’t actually need a special occasion dress), you can easily find 500 that you love. But go figure … when it comes time to actually needing a dress for that big event next week, you can’t find even one half-decent thing that you like enough to buy it. Can I get an amen??
I’m constantly receiving direct messages on Instagram asking where to shop for these styles, so let’s just say that this blog post is loooong overdue. I finally gathered my top suggestions of retailers to shop at for these special occasions, and I hope you find it helpful the next time you find yourself in a rut a week before an event.
